Frequently Asked Questions

General FAQs

What is changing?
For Qwest High-Speed Internet® consumer customers, the High-Speed Internet service that provides access to email and the homepage is changing from Microsoft to a set of Qwest provided email and homepage services. Qwest introduced a new customizable homepage at myqwest.com with @q.com email and other web-based email account access. You will continue to receive your @q.com email but you will access it by going to myqwest.com. If you have a @msn.com, @hotmail.com or @live.com email address and you access that today at www.hotmail.com that also will not change.

How does this impact me?
All @q.com email users need to move their email to the new myqwest.com homepage. Existing @msn.com, @hotmail.com and @live.com email users will not have to do anything unless they plan to enjoy the benefits of the myqwest.com homepage. To do that, you will need to add or already have a @q.com email address and use that to login at myqwest.com. You can continue to use msn/hotmail/or @live.com for your email and create a @q.com email just for access to the myqwest.com homepage.

Why should I do this?
A @q.com login provides the tools to give you the most power over your Internet experience. Myqwest.com provides the power of the Internet in a single page. You can personalize and customize your myqwest page and navigate, search, localize, and access multiple email accounts like GMail, Yahoo and most other web based email domains all in one place.

Will my bill change?
No – there will be no change to your monthly rate on your Qwest bill due to this service change.

Will I need to change any of my existing email addresses?
No – you can keep all of your current email addresses. You will only need to move your @q.com from one system to another and we'll make that very easy for you to do.

How can I get started and transfer my @q.com email account to myqwest.com?
Go to www.qwest.com/myqwestemail to move your current @q.com email in a few easy steps. After that, you can take advantage of the Trueswitch™ service to copy your personal data including old email, folders and address/contact data to your new account accessible at myqwest.com.

TrueSwitch FAQ

What is TrueSwitch™?
Trueswitch is a free service being provided to you by Qwest to help you copy many of the features you enjoy today with your @q.com email service over to your new email account at myqwest.com. Trueswitch will copy any email folders you have, old emails, address book/contacts, calendar entries etc over to your @q.com account. Using the Trueswitch service is optional to you. Go to www.trueswitch.com/qwest-mg for more Trueswitch information.

@q.com email Questions

Will my @q.com email address change?
No – you will keep your current @q.com email address and will have the option of creating additional @q.com email addresses.

How many email addresses can I add to my main account?
You can add an additional 10 to the first email for a total of 11.

Why do I need a @q.com email address?
@q.com is a single letter domain that is unique to your Qwest High-Speed Internet service. Along with receiving all of the benefits included with your monthly subscription like desktop security, free backup etc, your @q.com email is your key to opening up the benefits of the myqwest.com homepage.

How will I access my @q.com email?
Go to www.myqwest.com and sign in.

As a @q.com email user, when will I need to complete this move?
You can get started now. All @q.com users will need to be accessing their @q.com email at myqwest.com by 6/30/2011. If you don't move your @q.com email, it will automatically be moved by Qwest in 2011.

What do I need to get started?
You will need to have your @q.com email address and password that you use when you login to check your email today. If there are other members of your household that have a @q.com email address, it would be helpful to have them handy to provide their email addresses and password as well. That way, you can move all of the household accounts at the same time.

What changes do I need to make to Outlook or Outlook Express to view my @q.com email?
If you use POP3 or IMAP to redirect your email to a client like Outlook or to display your @q.com email on your PDA or cellphone, you will need to change the settings to mail.q.com (for Pop3 and IMAP) or smtp.q.com to update your SMTP settings. You will need to use Port 110 incoming and Port 587 outgoing.

Who do I contact for help associated with my @q.com or myqwest.com homepage?
Qwest will continue to support trouble issues related to your @q.com email address and the new myqwest.com homepage. Please go to www.myqwest.com/support for a complete list of self help options related to your Qwest services.

MSN email FAQs
     (@msn.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com or MSN Premium)

How will this change affect "non-q.com" emails like @msn.com, @hotmail.com or @live.com?
Any email address that you have like this will not change. You can continue to access them at www.hotmail.com or you are free to begin accessing them at www.hotmail.com if you haven't been doing that.

Can I add an additional msn, hotmail or @live.com e-mail address?
You can go to www.hotmail.com and add additional email accounts. If you want to add an additional @q.com email account, you will need to go to myqwest.com and click on "Create Account".

Will I still have access to Microsoft related products that I use like Photogallery, Skydrive etc?
Yes, whether you have been using a @q.com or @msn.com email address to access Microsoft and Windows Live related features, you will continue to have access to them. You should access them at least once every 90 days to insure the account remains active.

Do I still call Qwest support if I have a problem with any of my Microsoft related emails (@msn.com, @hotmail.com or @live.com)?
No, support for your Microsoft related products or services will come exclusively from Microsoft at http://explore.live.com/windows-live-help-center. Qwest will continue to support your High Speed Internet service as well as any issues related to your @q.com email or the myqwest.com homepage.

What if I use MSN Premium (also referred to as the Butterfly)?
Qwest will no longer offer the MSN Premium Butterfly service after 6/30/2011. Between now and then, Microsoft will message you when you sign in to the service with a special offer to retain MSN Premium for a small additional charge. If you agree to begin paying for the MSN Premium service, you will need to have or will need to create a new Microsoft email address (either an @msn.com, @hotmail.com or @live.com) to login in to the "Butterfly". A @q.com email will not work on the MSN Premium client after 6/30/11. You can create a new @q.com email at anytime by going to http://www.myqwest.com/login/index.php.

What if I have a combination of MSN/Hotmail/Live.com email addresses along with @q.com email addresses on my account?
After the migration, you will go to myqwest.com to access your @q.com email and to www.hotmail.com to access MSN/Hotmail and/or Live.com email, like you may already do today, regardless of whether your @q.com or MSN related email account was previously your primary or secondary email.

If I currently use www.qwest.live.com or qwest.msn.com as my homepage or to check my email, where should I go to check my email after migrating?
After your @q.com has been migrated, you should go to myqwest.com to login and check your email. You can also make myqwest.com your homepage for additional convenience. Both www.qwest.live.com and qwest.msn.com homepages will be discontinued after 6/30/11.

What if I am using OneCare or McAfee/Webroot for desktop security?
OneCare is being discontinued by Microsoft unrelated to this migration. McAfee/Webroot are tied to your MSN Premium subscription and should be uninstalled as well if you discontinue using the MSN Premium service. You can go to www.qwest.com/qwestateasedownload to download your complimentary copy of Norton™ AntiVirus Online.
