Hearing Aid-Compatible Cell Phones
Qwest is an authorized sales agent for Verizon Wireless. Verizon Wireless offers a choice of wireless handsets that meet the FCC Hearing Aid Compatibility requirements for Radio Frequency interference. These phones have an M3 or T3 or better Hearing Aid Compatible rating.
Handset detail can be obtained at http://www.qwestservice.com/residential/productsandservices/wireless/index.html. For more information, please contact a Qwest disabilities consultant at 1 800-223-3131 (Voice and TTY).
New Number Referral Intercept — TTY Compatible
Qwest is pleased to announce a new option for New Number Referral Intercept that makes it TTY compatible. TTY users can select this feature to advise TTY users who call their old number of the fact the number is disconnected or provide their new number. This message will be issued in a Baudot tone to the calling TTY.
Report a Service Problem for TTY Users
TTY users who wish to report a service problem should call the Center for Customers with Disabilities or use a Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS) (dial 711) to contact Qwest Repair at 1 800-573-1311.
TTY users with Internet access also can report a service problem online at the Qwest Repair Center.
When contacting Qwest Repair, please tell us whether you’re using a medical alert device on the line experiencing the service problem.
State Equipment Programs
Most states in Qwest's local service region have programs that offer hearing-impaired customers special equipment that make it easier for them to use the telephone. Some states also offer equipment for customers with motion disabilities.
Most of these programs loan the equipment at no charge, but qualification is based on income and disability. For specific information, please contact the agency in your state.
Customers located outside Qwest's local service region should contact their state health and social services agency for information about state-funded telephone equipment programs.
TTY Directory Listing
If you use a Text Telephone (TTY), Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD) or Telecommunications Relay Service, you may note this in your directory listing at no additional charge. Customers may choose from several options for their listing:
Please call the Center for Customers with Disabilities at 1 800-223-3131 to choose your phrase and add it to your directory listing.
Qwest Voice Mail Service for TTY Users
Qwest Voice Mail Service can be adapted for TTY users. Households with both hearing and hearing-impaired members find this particularly useful because it lets everyone receive messages from one voice mailbox.
For hearing members of the household, Qwest Voice Mail Service works no differently. They can play back incoming messages on any touch-tone phone. TTY users in the same household, however, can retrieve voice messages from any touch-tone TTY.
For more information, please see our monthly rates for Qwest Voice Mail Service and instructions on how to use Qwest Voice Mail Service.
