Before the installation

Step 1. Check to see if your system meets the Norton™ Solutions requirements
  • Operating System:
    Microsoft® Windows® XP with Service Pack 2 or later Home/Professional/Media Center
    Microsoft Windows Vista (32/64-bit) Starter/Home Basic/Home Premium/Business/Ultimate
    Microsoft Windows 7 (32/64-bit) Starter/Home Basic/Home Premium/Professional/Ultimate
    Macintosh information
  • Processor: 300 MHz or higher
  • Free hard drive space: 200 MB or higher
  • RAM:  256 MB or more (*512 MB RAM required for the Recovery Tool)
  • Email scanning supported for POP3 and SMTP compatible email clients.
  • CD-ROM or DVD drive (if not installing via electronic download)
  • Internet connection:  High speed internet connection recommended
  • Browser support for Vulnerability Protection feature:
    Microsoft Internet Explorer® 6.0 (32-bit only) and later*
    Mozilla Firefox® 3.0 and later*

    * As made available by Symantec within your service period.
Step 2. Delete Windows Temporary Files
  1. Exit all open programs.

  2. Depending on your version of Windows, do one of the following:

    • For Windows XP: Click Start > Run.
    • For Windows 7 or Vista: Click the Start button, and then click All programs > Accessories > Run.

  3. In the run dialog box, type the following text: %temp%

  4. Click OK. The current user's Temp folder opens in Windows Explorer.

  5. On the Edit menu, click Select All.

  6. Press Delete.

  7. If you are asked to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

Step 3. Delete Temporary Internet Files
  1. Start Internet Explorer.

  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

  3. On the General Tab, under Browsing History, click Delete.

  4. Click Delete files, and then click Yes.

  5. Click Delete cookies, and then click Yes.

  6. Click Close, and then click OK.

Step 4. Remove any other antivirus programs that are installed
  1. Click the Start button and then click Control Panel.

  2. Depending on your version of Windows, do one of the following:

    • For Windows 7 and Vista, click Uninstall a Program.
    • For Windows XP, double-click Add or Remove Programs.

  3. In the list of installed programs, click any other antivirus program you want to remove, and then click Remove or Uninstall.

  4. To confirm that you want to uninstall the product, click Remove All.

  5. Click Restart Windows Now (Recommended), and then click Finish.
