What is NAT and does it protect my network?
Network Address Translation (NAT) makes it possible seperate your local network from the Internet. By creating a local-area network (LAN) that uses one group of IP addresses for internal traffic, and a second address or group of addresses for external Internet traffic (WAN).
Since NAT provides more IP addresses to your LAN, this can help:
- Hide your internal IP address when you are on the Internet, providing a measure of security
- Increase the number of devices that you can connect to the Internet
- combine multiple Internet connections into a single virtual connection to the Internet
You can learn how to turn NAT on or off.
