General InformationAccount Information
Each computer will need its own Qwest Personal Digital Vault account established. On each computer: It is easy: whenever you want to check the status of your backups, just launch the Qwest Personal Digital VaultTM Client using the Qwest Personal Digital VaultTM desktop icon, the Qwest Personal Digital VaultTM system tray icon (an icon that will display in your system tray whenever the Software Client is running), or through the Start Menu. Once the client has been launched, click the Activity Log button. A history of the backups and restores will be displayed. After each online backup, you will receive a confirmation message stating that your backup is complete. After your files are initially backed up, only changes to the files will be saved during subsequent backups. This eliminates redundant copies of the same file leaving you more room to back up your most valuable data. It also helps save time required for each backup by only backing up the files that have changed since the last backup. By default, backups are set to occur once a day automatically. The PC needs to be connected to the Internet for this default setting to work. You can customize the backup schedule or run a manual backup at any time using your Qwest Personal Digital VaultTM Client. The Qwest Personal Digital VaultTM Client has a flexible scheduler which allows you to specify which days you would like backups to happen. You can also tell the program to start your backup within a certain timeframe (i.e., Early Morning, Morning, Mid-Day, Afternoon, Evening, Late Night). To change the automatic backup schedule, follow these steps: Your scheduled backup will run when your PC is turned on, you are logged into your Windows account and your PC is connected to the Internet. You can backup any combination of photos, digital music, Word documents, and other important files that you have space for in your backup account. You can upgrade your account at any time by accessing http://www.qwestservice.com/vaultaccount, and clicking the Buy More Space button located in the left hand navigation menu. From there, you will be guided through the process of entering your credit card information and confirming your upgrade. You should only back up personal files that are important and cannot be easily replaced. You should not back up your Windows operating system or program files. To set up or modify your file selection, follow these steps: The Space Progress Bar is displayed in the top right hand corner of the client Home screen as well as the web Home page, web Account Information page and the Backed Up Files page. The Space Progress Bar indicates the total size of your last backup. This is the measurement of the latest file selection on record and the files in which you can see when clicking on the "Backed Up File Set" on the client Home screen or the "Backed up Files" section on the web. You will see an error notice and message of a failed backup due to account space if the file selection becomes larger than the space within the account. Only the last backup selection is shown, although, there are multiple versions saved within the account. You can view all backed up versions on the "Restore Files" section in the client by double clicking on the system tray icon and then clicking on "Restore Files" in the left-hand navigation menu . This will lead to seeing all the available file versions that have been previously saved. Restores can be viewed in 3 different ways: " Restore all files", "Restore categories of files", and Restore specific files or folders" Yes. However, Qwest Personal Digital VaultTM is a back up service and not an archival service. If your subscription is not renewed before it expires, your account will be deactivated and all your data deleted. If you want to check your subscription end date, please follow these steps: The Account Information section will provide you with your subscription expiration date. Qwest Personal Digital VaultTM requires Microsoft Windows XP or Windows VistaTM operating system; Pentium IV processor or higher, running at least 512MB (1GB preferred) of RAM; and at least 15 MB of hard disk space. Your backup limit is based on the amount of space you have purchased. For example, if you have signed-up for a 50-Gigabyte account, you have full access to that space each time the backup runs. In that example, you could backup a full gigabyte repeatedly, night after night, as long the data you selected for backup does not push your account over your 50-Gigabyte limit. Yes. If you turn your PC off at night, then you may want to schedule your backup during the day. Make sure your PC is not set to go to sleep after a certain amount of time. That is almost the same as turning it off. Also, make sure that you are logged into your Windows account and connected to the Internet. If your computer is turned off when the backup period passes, the Qwest Personal Digital VaultTM Client will attempt to perform a backup when the computer is turned on again.
