Fast Fact

What is Identity Theft?

Identity theft occurs when an unauthorized person uses your personal information, and your good credit to fraudulently obtain goods and services. All a thief needs is a little information about you such as a Social Security number, a driver's license or a checking account number and they can assume your identity by:

Opening a credit card and bank accounts
Getting cash advances
Obtaining loans

All under your name!

Qwest takes steps to verify the identity of people who apply for services, but you need to make sure you can take the right precautions to protect yourself.

Important Tip: Make sure to receive your credit reports once a year to monitor activity on your financial accounts.

NOTE: Qwest is providing the above information as a customer service for educational purposes only. Qwest assumes no liability for the use of this information and does not guarantee that following the recommendations provided will prevent fraud.
